The new mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette C8 already boasts a top speed of 194 mph and can sprint from 0-60 in under 3 seconds, but when it comes to supercars, the more performance, the merrier. Enter the Z06. Based on a new teaser video released by Chevrolet, the upcoming Z06 is going big for 2023 as the first performance model of the C8.

The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 was first introduced in the 1960s as an option package geared at drivers looking for track-level performance. The original Z06 upgraded the standard Corvette's handling and braking, and came with a supersized fuel tank to cut down on refueling during a race, earning it the nicknames "Big Tank" and "Tanker."

The video of the forthcoming model, titled "Crank it Up," doesn't actually show the new Corvette Z06, but it offers the next best thing — the sound of the car's roaring V-8 engine. The view from the driver's perspective shows the supercar accelerating on a track and an open road, indicating the vehicle's ability to accommodate both street and track driving pursuits. The video also gives Vette aficionados a date to mark their calendars: The 2023 Corvette Z06 will be revealed in the fall.
The 2023 Z06 is expected to offer an upgrade to the already-quick 2021 Corvette, which gets up to 495 horsepower and 470 pounds-feet of torque from its 6.2-liter V-8 engine. As a frame of reference, the last-generation 2019 Corvette Z06 produced 650 hp and 650 pounds-feet of torque from a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8. Sports car fans will have to wait a little longer to see more details on the Z06; the lullaby of the roaring engine will have to suffice in the meantime.
